Roofing Dumpster Rental in Lakewood, CO
Hail season runs May through September and we run with it. Containers staged the night before, next-day swaps for crews working multiple houses, and boards down so a tear-off does not cost you a driveway.
The Denver metro sits in one of the worst hail corridors in the country, and roof replacement is the single biggest driver of container demand on the Front Range. A storm tracks across Lakewood on a Thursday afternoon and by Monday every roofer from Golden to Littleton is booking tear-offs. We have worked every one of those seasons since 2012 and we schedule for the surge instead of pretending it will not happen.
Shingle weight is where most people get the size wrong. Standard architectural runs roughly 230 to 250 pounds per square. Class 4 impact-resistant shingles — now common on Front Range homes after a claim, and often required by the carrier — are noticeably heavier per square. Concrete and clay tile on the newer south-metro builds is heavier again by a wide margin. Layers matter too: a lot of the 1960s Lakewood stock is on its second or third layer.
For crews, the value is scheduling. Night-before staging so the container is in place when the tear-off starts at first light, next-day swaps when you are running three houses in a week, and a dispatcher who knows what a stalled roof means when a storm cell is forecast for Wednesday. For homeowners managing their own claim, we will size it off your square count and layers — just call and tell us the numbers.
Roof Loads We Size For
Hail Claim Tear-Offs
The core of Front Range roofing work from May through September. Insurance-driven full replacements across whole neighborhoods after a single afternoon supercell.
Class 4 Impact Shingles
Post-claim upgrades are now standard here. Impact-resistant product weighs more per square than architectural, so the container gets sized on weight, not on visual volume.
Multi-Layer Removals
Older Lakewood and Wheat Ridge ranches often carry two or three layers. Each additional layer roughly multiplies the tonnage — count them before you order.
Concrete & Clay Tile
Heavy on newer south-metro and Solterra-style builds. Tile goes in a small container on a dedicated load or the truck cannot legally lift it.
Wood Shake Conversions
Remaining cedar shake roofs are bulky and light. Volume drives the size here rather than weight, so a larger box makes sense on the same square count.
Flat & Low-Slope Roofs
Torn-off modified bitumen, EPDM and built-up gravel systems on commercial buildings. Gravel ballast is dense and needs to be called out when you book.
Swamp Cooler Removal
Roof-mounted evaporative coolers come down during most re-roofs on older metro homes. Metal-heavy, refrigerant-free, and fine in a mixed roofing load.
Gutter, Fascia & Decking
Storm-damaged gutters, rotted fascia and rotted or replaced roof decking pulled during the tear-off. Add roughly a container size when decking is coming off wholesale.
Sizing by Square Count and Layers
Rough working numbers for a single layer of architectural shingle: a 15 yard handles a small roof up to roughly 20 squares, a 20 yard covers most Lakewood ranches and split-levels in the 20 to 30 square range, and a 30 yard takes the larger two-story and foothills homes. Then adjust. Second layer, add substantially. Class 4 impact shingles, add. Tile, drop to a small box and order more of them. Wet shingles after an afternoon storm weigh more than dry. Give us square count, layers, product type and whether decking is coming off, and we will size it right the first time. Full guide here.

Protection boards under the rails on every roofing drop, standard. A tear-off container is one of the heaviest things that will ever sit on a residential driveway, and Colorado slabs already fight freeze-thaw and expansive clay movement. We also place with the roof in mind — close to the working slope, angled so the crew is not carrying bundles the length of the property, and clear of the gutter line. During peak hail weeks, book early. When a cell hits, the whole metro calls inside forty-eight hours and availability tightens for everybody. Crews with a standing schedule get served first. Homeowners working a claim should read our hail replacement guide.

Roofing Dumpster Rental FAQs
What size do I need for a 25 square roof?
One layer of standard architectural on a 25 square roof fits a 20 yard comfortably. Add a second layer and you are into a 30, or two 20s if the driveway cannot take a longer box. Class 4 impact-resistant product pushes the weight up on the same square count. Tile is a different calculation entirely and goes in a small container. Call with your numbers and we will confirm rather than guess.
Can you deliver the night before we start?
Yes, and that is how most of our roofing crews run it. We stage the evening before so the container is in position when the tear-off starts at first light and nobody is standing on a roof waiting for a truck. It needs a confirmed placement spot and clear driveway access. During peak storm weeks, night-before staging is scheduled ahead rather than called in the same afternoon.
Do wet shingles change the weight?
Meaningfully. A container loaded during or after one of our afternoon storms can come in noticeably heavier than the same tear-off loaded dry, because asphalt shingle absorbs and holds water. If rain is in the forecast and you are already near the limit, that is a good reason to swap a little early rather than push the last few bundles in. Tell the driver if the load got soaked.
Can the old swamp cooler go in the roofing container?
Yes. Evaporative coolers do not contain refrigerant, so unlike a refrigerated AC unit they can go straight into the mixed roofing load. They are mostly sheet metal and pads. What cannot go in is anything with a sealed refrigerant charge — that needs evacuation and tagging by a licensed technician first. Same rule applies to any rooftop condensing unit coming down with the re-roof.
How quickly can you swap during hail season?
Next day is our standard and we protect it hard through the season. Crews on a standing schedule and multi-house jobs get routed first, because those are the ones where a missed swap costs a full day of labor. If you are running a heavy week in June or July, tell us the whole week's schedule at once and we will build the route around it instead of reacting house by house.
