Why people choose the 40 yard

Understand what you are actually renting. Forty yards of capacity against a five to six ton allowance works out to roughly 300 pounds per cubic yard before you are in trouble. Cardboard, packaging, cabinetry, insulation, furniture and siding live under that number easily. Concrete at 2,400 pounds a yard blows past it after two feet of loading. This container is a liability on dense debris and we will tell you no.

The access requirements are real and they eliminate a lot of residential sites. Eight-foot walls mean the hoist arm needs every bit of that 23 feet of overhead clearance, and the truck still wants roughly 60 feet of straight approach to set and retrieve it. Alley placement behind older Lakewood and Edgewater homes rarely works at this size. Neither do most foothills drives toward Morrison or Evergreen.

Then there is loading height. Eight feet is over most people's heads — nobody is throwing a sofa over that rail. Realistically you load through the swing door and stack, or you have a machine. Crews on commercial demolition and large tear-out jobs use these constantly because they have the equipment. For a homeowner weekend, a 30 yard is almost always the better answer.

HOA and metro-district rules in Ken Caryl, Solterra, Highlands Ranch and Centennial often restrict containers this large outright.
